This is a lovely place for an outing but... we visited in December. Maybe that was a mistake. The place was busy, but not full to capacity. However, the service was dismal! The pizzas arrived LONG before the other meals. When we FINALLY got our food, the chips were cold. I had to go looking for out server about three times - he was not at all attentive. Whenever I found him, he was standing inside, so it's not like he was super busy. Our waffles arrived and the ice cream had already melted. The poor service soured the experience for us, unfortunately. Other than that, the pizzas were delicious. The rest of the meals were passable. The bathrooms were clean when I went, but some of the toilets didn't have seats.

The food was below average, the pizza and the burgers we ordered were quite bland, no cutlery or serviettes were given but our waitress was friendly and apologetic. The view is a different story, it was beautiful just to be so close to all the beautiful animals. It made the drive there worth it. Lovely experience, no regrets.

A nice restaurant with a relaxed vibe. The food took a while but was delicious. The viewing deck is cool but we were almost disappointed by travelling all the way without getting up close to the giraffe but luckily it eventually came up to the feeding table and was then worth the wait. Nice clean bathroom. I didn't go the side where the kiddies play area was but from what I could see it looked like children would have fun there. Friendly staff, awesome decor and I loved the chill vibe.

Absolutely loved Neck & Deck Restaurant in Joburg! 🦒 The giraffe feeding experience was magical, the Afro-fusion food was delicious, and the wildlife views made it feel like a mini safari. 10/10 recommend! ❤️ #NeckAndDeck #JoburgEats"

The food was alright. I know that we're all trying to save money, but giving a plastic spoon with a mediocre cappuccino (more like a latte) is kind of tacky if you're providing stainless steel knives and forks for the meals. The waitress was friendly and chatty when she seated us, but after we paid, she said a feeble "Thank you" and walked off as if she wasn't happy with our decent tip. I can't say for the men's restroom, but the women's restroom is a disgrace! All of the toilets inside the restaurant are falling apart and filthy! And the doors are filthy too... The stall I went into had no locking mechanism, and the toilet bowl was dirty, even being the "cleanest" of all the toilets. I don't even want to know what the stains are on the inside of the one toilet's lid - its seat is on the floor beside it! Another stall has wallpaper torn off the wall. The white Kimberly-Clark bin to dispose of the paper you use to dry your hands with is DISUSTINGLY DIRTY! The one mirror above the sinks is cracked. The women's restroom near the pathway where you can walk and see, or at least were able to see more bird life, is just as horrendous! Cobwebs all over... The left stall has a live wasp nest in the right corner of the ceiling. The flush button of the toilet is sitting OUTSIDE of the toilet tank. The right stall has a small live wasp nest and spiders. The toilet seat is broken. Both doors of the stalls are filthy and moldy. Oh, and outside of these restrooms is a filthy mop hanging in a tree. The deck by the lake is scattered with furniture, some intact and some broken, and a broken patio cover. Outside of the lapa that is located next to the parking area, there is a broken lamp standing there... It seems that this place has no sense of cleanliness or pride in the outside of their establishment. After seeing all this, it makes me wonder what the state of their kitchen is, and if our food was even prepared by cooks who actually practice hygiene in the kitchen. Very sad to see a place where I was a couple of years ago in the state that it is in now. It's disgusting, and we will never go back there, nor will we recommend it to anyone else. Also, many of the bird species that were there for viewing are gone, and the enclosures are filthy, too! And please tell your staff to stop standing around on their phones. If it is slow, they are still at work and should be presenting themselves well and not be chilling around like they were. It does not make your establishment seem professional at all. Imagine the impression you are making on the tourists visiting your establishment - not a good one for sure!
