The Cradle of Humankind covers 47,000 hectares of rolling hills and limestone caves. It serves as a monumental paleoanthropological reserve containing nearly half of the world's pre-human fossils, famously including "Mrs. Ples" and "Little Foot". The public experience spans two major anchor locations situated 15 km apart: the world-class Maropeng Visitor Centre which features a theme-park-style underground boat ride, interactive multimedia on evolution, and a vortex tunnel and the active archaeological dig at the Wits Sterkfontein Caves, where visitors can venture down into the subterranean caverns.
