Bought tickets online so had no wait time. It was a great visit. Most enclosures were great and really large which was nice to see. My only complaint is the red panda enclosure, which seems quite dark and has no natural light. It would be good if it could have a similar enclosure to the ones the spider monkeys have in the Amazon section, as that one is great. Lots of animal diversity, and seeing the Grey wolf was a welcome surprise too. Looking forward to seeing gorillas in the future too.

This is my second time to the Johannesburg Zoo, I went initially 3 years ago on a Friday in December and recently in June on a Thursday. I thoroughly enjoyed both visits. The animals have large enclosures, are well fed and, if you are patient and not intrusive, you are rewarded by often catching a glimpse of animal behaviour. For example, at the chimpanzee enclosure, we saw how a mother and child started playing with each other. I enjoyed both the summer and winter visits, just take note that the crocodiles are not viewable in Winter as they are relocated to hothouses. The recent winter visit on a Thursday was alot less busy and so I would recommend going during the week, if you would like an immersive experience.

Visited Johannesburg Zoo recently and had a great experience! The zoo is well maintained with a wide variety of animals including lions, elephants, and giraffes. The walking paths are clean and easy to navigate, making it a pleasant place to explore. It’s a perfect spot for families, especially with kids, and also great for a relaxed day outdoors. The greenery and open spaces add to the overall experience, making it feel refreshing and peaceful. Staff were helpful and the animals looked well cared for. Overall, a nice place to visit in Johannesburg if you enjoy nature and wildlife.

The animals appear to be well cared for, and the venue offers plenty of sightings—you get to see a wide variety of animals. There are also many waste bins available, though it would be better if they were emptied more frequently. Similarly, while there are enough restroom facilities, improved cleaning and ensuring a consistent supply of toilet paper would enhance the experience. One of the on-site shops was understocked, offering only a limited selection of drinks with no ice cream or snacks. It would be great if the shops could be better stocked, especially during busy periods like long weekends.

The zoo was much better than i expected. It was big and many of the animals had bigger living areas and you will also see animals roamed around freely. I spent 3 hours there and was really satisfied.
